What is this?
I am running a group of platooners (and possibly tier 6 stronghold) and looking for more to join us! You probably recieved this link in-game or in the forums and hence ended up here. It is both just a friendlist-group as well as a clan!
You can choose if you want to be in the friendlist group only or part of the clan instead. To apply to the clan contact me through private message in-game and/or in the forums. New applicants will start out as hangarounds. During that time you could technically belong to another clan although it is not preferred.
Link to the clan on Wargaming's site: https://eu.wargaming.net/clans/wot/500152286/
Thirdly it is also a community for anyone interested in platooning or teamplay in WoT. That is why we have a discord server for this.
How it works:
If you fullfill the requirements (listed below) and accept the friend-request you will see my invites. Usually I will write some text in the invite about what the tier flavor of the day is or similar. Please read it before accepting. Also if you have been to our teamspeak server before you should bookmark it so it is easier and faster to join the next time. Bear in mind that these invites go out to my whole friendlist and hence "first come first served".

General
The goal is to have fun in the game through winning as many games as possible in multiple tiers and use good teamplay as well as adding a social element. Hence real life as well as normal internet-courtesy ("netiquette") is required!
Beware that the game experience might differ from what you are used to as the platoon will be very win and teamplay focused and solo-stats (like WN8) will be less important. This could lead to seemingly illogical tactical choices like really hard pushes at times....but this is teamplay!
A secondary goal of the platoons is to try to break the camping/passive meta in the game. In worst case this could lower the chance to win but usually it shouldn't if the aggressive play is performed correctly. A less passive approach should lead to faster and more fun games as well as higher XP/hour.
A third goal would be to build a "framework" for platooning. This is so that players belonging to the group easily can play together. Knowing how to choose tanks, tactics, how to communicate and more.
Note that we do not aspire to be elitistic but rather rely on tactics and teamplay to achieve victory. This means that you dont need to have mad skills although it wouldn't hurt ;-) It also means that almost anyone with the will to learn and ability to listen can be a part of these platoons.
The platoon will usually/partially have a "commander"...usually me. A commander is of most use if there are 2 or more mediums in the platoon but to some extent in other cases also. In the case of newcomers I will also take the role of "teacher". Please do not take this the wrong way! Initially there WILL be a lot discussing going on between the battles. If this is not in your interest please understand that participation in these platoons is completely voulantary and that are you free to leave at any time.
I do understand that many questions will arise initally and to some extent I will be willing to explain or discuss tactical choices but please do understand that I platoon with many players and sometimes there will be less explaining. Sometimes you just have to take some things for granted and give it some time. It depends both on your understanding of how to win games but also how we all interact, communicate and understand each other.
To some extent we will be learning "my style" of platooning but personally I think that most of it is actually just normal teamplay tactics required for any high-winrate platoon and seasoned platoon players usually fall right into place here.
I know that my approach to platooning can feel very hierarchical with an almost military command structure. It is only meant to be like that initially though, in the teaching phase. In the long run we are supposed to develop a much more advanced hierarchy that is much closer to civilian airline pilots using CRM (cockpit resource management) to interact. Discipline is always important though.
It can happen that we are just not a fit for each other. In that case please be civil about it and let us depart as friends.
A last thing that is specific about these platoons is that we try to make it work with many types of tanks and a wide tier-range (the least used types are however td's, autoloaders and "papertanks"). Even with arty, although the carry-potential is definately lower I still think it gives an unique twist to the game. This naturally increases the need to use the correct tactics and doctrine even further.

Requierements
- Working headset and Teamspeak and Discord (yes, both).
- Minimum at least one "real" medium or heavy tank (non-autoloader, non-papertank) in each tier from 5-9. Preferably more. - Willingness to acquire most of the tanks that we play (see the list of tanks). - Willingness to learn our style of platooning. - Good english. - Premium account (or having plenty of silver credits already). - Minimum 6000 personal rating. (Can only be debated if you're incredibly charming.) - As we are a "hardcore" platooning group you are supposed to have a TRUE interest in platooning and improving your winrate. Hence you are supposed to be platooning most of your games. If not with us with some of your own friends. - Make sure that you don't have mod-related or other game crashes before joining. - General settings: "Accept invitations from friends in the garage" and "Accept invitations to platoon in battle" set to ON. - You have read the WoT wiki. At least battle mechanics. Recomended settings
Modpack: Quickybaby's or similar.
XVM settings: XMPQ (exchange data with allies) set to ON. FOV: Max (120). Client: SD (non HQ). FPS: Prefer FPS over beauty. Set most to low. Post processing: Nope, nada, non, zero. Marker: Show HP in-game in % (on ALT you can have actual HP). Show both player name and type of tank. Use SHIFT key: to switch between arcade view and sniper view as well as not allowing the scrollwheel to do that. Client language: Please have the game client in english. Teamspeak: Voice activation detection, keybinds for microphone mute. Have the same username on teamspeak as in the game. Replays: ON |
Platoon setups and "rules"
- "standard platoon" = Any mix of mediums and heavies (usually minimum one medium in the platoon or a non-slow heavy)
- "mix platoon" = all tanks of different types (we are doing this more and more as it lowers the need for teamplay to "normal" levels and is more "relaxed"). - "full medium platoon" = The dreaded wolfpack. Requires a high level of coordinated teamplay as well as good individual skill. - "odd platoon" = Platoon consisting of at least two of the following: lights, arty and/or TD. (Only one arty can be used in a platoon. Having more then 1 "passive type TD" in the platoon is always a no-no.) - "full light platoon" = 3 lights. Requires the highest amount of individual skill as well as expert level coordinated teamplay. Note: The reason for these setup rules are mostly because we want to get as good matchmaking as possible but also to have clear roles and to know what predetermined tactics (if any) to use. Note #2: A fun and "partially democratic" method when chosing tanks is to let a player continue to chose tanks as long as "he is winning". If there is a loss then the next one choses and so on. Note that the tanks that the "other players" pick must adhere to the platooning rules. Note #3: In tier 3, 4, 9 and 10 these rules do not apply fully but to some extent still. |
Worse option: Platooning without coms and also with less requirements and teamplay
At some times I will be willing to do this even. Some players will end up in my non-voice friendlist-group. Meaning these players dont meet the full requirments, dont like my teamplay style or other reasons. I still expect a good level of play though and at least some level of teamplay. Also some kind of communication is still required, like using text-chat and commands like affermative, negative, help, pinging the minimap etc.
I know this is how the players in the in-game chat channel "stronk plutons" play. Most of them do however not use normal courtesy and communcation. For example they start battle one second after inviting, leave the platoon without saying anything etc. All thoose are no-no's in my book.
Anyway...sometimes it can be relaxing to play in this way (lack of courtesy and netiquette is never accepted). Maybe its very late and some players can not talk etc. Just throwing this out there as a possibility although I will personally usually prefer the "full out platooning". Anything is better then solo though, right? In the end however, real platoons is the only way you can really get to know the other players and build a more enjoyable teamplay (and maybe even friendship?) for the future.
